“To provide a reliable fire water supply system for a major shipyard in Yangon, Myanmar, LeAqua delivered an integrated smart fire pump station featuring a modular SW stainless steel structure. Despite prolonged monsoon conditions and unexpected site-wide water shortages during construction, the project was successfully completed through flexible engineering management and rapid on-site problem solving.”

The Challenge

Constructing critical fire protection infrastructure in a busy shipyard during Myanmar’s rainy season presented multiple engineering and logistical challenges.

  • Prolonged Monsoon Construction
  • The installation was carried out during the peak monsoon season. Continuous rainfall frequently interrupted lifting operations, structural assembly, and equipment installation, extending the construction schedule by approximately one month beyond the original plan. Even under these conditions, every installation procedure followed LeAqua’s quality management standards.
  • Unexpected Water Supply Interruption
  • During construction, the entire project site temporarily lost its available water supply. Water was required for equipment cleaning, hydrostatic testing, and system commissioning, making continued installation impossible under normal conditions.
  • Maintaining Fire Protection Standards
  • As a shipyard fire protection facility, the pump station required strict installation accuracy and reliable hydraulic performance. All structural assembly, sealing, and commissioning procedures had to meet engineering specifications despite adverse site conditions.

Our Engineered Solution

LeAqua combined modular structural engineering with flexible field management to ensure successful project delivery.

Modular SW Stainless Steel Pump Station

The pump station measures 21 × 12 × 3 m and adopts LeAqua’s SW bolted modular stainless steel structure, enabling efficient on-site assembly while maintaining excellent structural strength and corrosion resistance.

The enclosure utilizes:

  • 2.0 mm 316 stainless steel composite roof panels
  • 3.0 mm 316 stainless steel composite side panels
  • 3.0 mm 316 stainless steel composite base panels

All panels are manufactured using precision press-forming technology before bolted assembly on site, providing excellent dimensional accuracy while eliminating welding-related deformation and reducing installation time.

Fire Pump Configuration

To ensure reliable firefighting capability, the station is equipped with:

  • 2 Indoor Fire Hydrant Pumps
    • Capacity: 60 L/s
    • Head: 67 m
    • Motor Power: 75 kW each
  • 2 Fire Pressure Maintenance Pumps
    • Capacity: 3 L/s
    • Head: 65 m
    • Motor Power: 4 kW each

This configuration provides stable fire water pressure while ensuring redundancy for continuous operation.

Rapid On-Site Engineering Response

When the construction site experienced a complete water outage, LeAqua engineers quickly organized an emergency water supply solution by deploying temporary pumping equipment to draw water from a source located several kilometers away.

This temporary pumping arrangement ensured sufficient water for hydrostatic testing, equipment commissioning, and ongoing construction activities, preventing further project delays.

Flexible Construction During Monsoon Season

The engineering team continuously adjusted construction schedules according to weather conditions while maintaining strict quality control. Although the rainy season extended the overall schedule by approximately one month, every inspection and commissioning procedure was completed before project handover.
